MOVING RIGHT ALONG by Elizabeth Bennett
2005 Cadillac STS![]() The Cadillac STS is a luxury sport sedan that’s been described as the “best sedan built in America.” Calling any vehicle “the best” puts me a little out of my comfort zone, since each one has something exceptional. However, in many aspects, the STS is a step above others in its class. Apart from its excellent driving capabilities, the STS has upscale features that might amaze even skeptics. One option is the adaptive cruise control that uses sonar to automatically sense the presence or absence of traffic. Set the cruise control and the STS measures the distance of the car ahead and adjusts the speed to retain a set distance. If a vehicle pulls in front of you, it recognizes its presence immediately and adjusts the speed. Another feature is the remote start system, which can be activated from a distance of 200 feet. On cold mornings, turn on the system and stay in your easy chair, enjoying that last cup of coffee for a few minutes. The remote feature activates the pre-set climate control, seat heaters and the front and rear defrosters. Other upscale features include premium leather on the seats and accents of eucalyptus wood and aluminum trim. The complete the sumptuous design, the headliner and interior pillars are soft-backed and covered with a Monaco woven fabric. Even the exterior is stimulating. With its vertically stacked headlamps and wire-mesh airfoil grille, the STS makes an impressive entrance. Looking past the front view, the sculpted sides enhance the lower roofline and the smooth doors-into-roof construction. The Cadillac STS is available with a 255-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 in a rear-drive configuration or a 320-horsepower 4.6-liter in a rear- or all-wheel drive.
